Here are my thoughts on last night’s Super Bowl:
The game: The game itself was pretty exciting. A bold onside-kick at the beginning on the second half really set the tone for the Saints’ comeback. The interception by Tracy Porter was another highlight. However, looking back at the past three Super Bowls, this one did not compare. The Giants miracle win over the Patriots and the Steelers’ last-second TD were on a higher level of excitement.
The story: New Orleans is probably more crazy for its football team than any other city. A few years after Hurricane Katrina, the Saints’ success has helped the battered city rebuild. Party on!
The half-time show: The Who was quite entertaining. But I would really like to see some younger artists perform. I think I speak for most of the “younger fans” when I say that I’m tired of bands being resurrected from the decades past. Give us Jay-Z or the Dave Matthews Band; something more in-tune with current pop-culture.
The commercials: They were awful. Probably only one or two commercials made me laugh out loud. The most hilarious one was not even meant to be funny - Skechers’ Shape-ups featuring Joe Montana: “I’m Joe Montana and I’ve played football for 16 years and Shape-ups have improved my strength and posture.” Haha…like Joe Montana wears Skechers…yeah, right. Those are probably the worst looking shoes I’ve ever seen!
When you have to follow two amazing Super Bowls like XLII and XLIII, it’s hard to compare. Because it’s way more than just a game. It’s an American holiday, and every aspect of the event must be evaluated; it was a good event, not a great event.
In my book, it’s a 7 out of 10.
